Local mum builds crafty business after tragic loss of her own mother to “celebrate mums and their breastfeeding successes”

Bradford mum of three, Jasmine Willoughby, who launched Roots of Love in early December, feels her late mum, Hannah, is looking on and celebrating the success of breastfeeding mums like her, 10 months on since her death. Jasmine gave birth to her third child, Jasper Fredrick, just 8 weeks ago yet has already embarked on an amazing new business creating ‘breastfeeding celebration mementos’. The first designs, affectionately known as ‘boobles’, are available now.

“One of my recent customers wanted the amount of time she breastfed her daughter stamped on the back” says Jasmine, who is more than happy to customise the ‘boobles’ and other designs to accommodate customer requests. “My boobles come in many different colours, can be personalised as you wish and are finished with the popular motif of the oxytocin molecule stamped on top.”

Oxytocin, best known as the love molecule, is released in both mother and baby when baby is feeding, but also when we hug and eat chocolate.

Having breastfed all three of her children; Amelia Jane, now 4; Arthur John, 2 and baby Jasper, Jasmine is extremely passionate about breastfeeding and wants more people to celebrate their own success as well as the breastfeeding journeys of the women around them.

“This is my second tandem feeding journey”, Jasmine explains. “Support for breastfeeding mums is so very important and one of my biggest supporters with my first two children was my mum”.

Jasmine’s mum, Hannah Killgallon, died in a fire at her home in Heaton, just 10 months ago, on February 10th, in tragic circumstances.

“My mum wasn’t able to feed me for very long due to health issues, so when I was struggling so much, she kept me going. She stayed with me and Amelia for 2 weeks in hospital, coming back and forth basically stopping me from discharging us giving up and going home. That was one of the greatest gifts she ever gave me – the gift of support. I want all mums who are breastfeeding to feel that support and that’s what my keepsakes and mementos are all about. I wanted a unique decoration or even a stocking filler to give a loved one and that’s how it came about. They could be given to someone or bought by someone who may have recently stopped breastfeeding or just want something to mark their achievement however big or small. It’s a way for families and friends to show their support – every breastfeeding journey is amazing, from the first feed to feeding until a baby self-weans.”

Jasmine hopes to expand her range in the new year to include a range of new accessories, mementos and keepsakes, all surrounding those first ‘Roots of Love’ of new motherhood.

What an amazing woman you are Jasmine! You’ve found the light in the darkness and I think you’re an inspiration.
I will be purchasing at least one booble, they’re such a lovely way to mark something incredible, like breastfeeding. I wish you every success, and I look forward to seeing more gorgeous keepsakes, and watching your business grow.
